COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING RESOURCES
Numerous resources are available for comprehensive planning. Here
the CPC provides links to some of the best and basic ones.
1. Section 272-a of the New York Consolidated Laws describes
the legal aspects of
Town Comprehensive Plans.
2. The Law School within PACE University has developed the
Land Use Law Center. On the left side of their
home page is a list of extensive information resources on this
subject. An excellent place to start is the
Beginner’s Guide to Land Use Law, a tutorial and
introduction to other subjects on Pace’s list. Note especially their
Community Tools and Related Links.
3. The
Smart Growth Clearing House connects New Yorkers
with state agencies that promote Smart Growth and provide other
sources of information about it.
SPECIFIC ASPECTS OF
COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING
1. The New York Department of State has
provided information about
Zoning and the Comprehensive Plan.
2. The New York State Department of
Agriculture and Markets provides very helpful information about
Farmland Protection.
3. Chatham, New York has made a long
term commitment to being and remaining a farm community. They
provide an overview and details at
Chatham Keep Farming.
