I spent many a summer in Copake. My dad was Ed Germano. We had a log cabin up on the "hill" in the "woods". He had bought the property back in the late '20's. My parents actually spent their honeymoon in Copake at their cabin (1934). I have such wonderful memories of this great place, have been to "visit" several times in the last 10 years. We're going up on the 27th of this month just to embrace the beauty of this place & to remember so many great times gone by. God's blessings to all!

The night of my third fire Investigatior Shook and deputies Kane and Wilson gather in my livingroom as Shook asked if I had a suspect. I named the person I thought burned my three barns. Then Shook recieves a remarkable lead. Athur Colman jr. saw a badly bvurned man leaving the fire. Shook started his investigation, but then mid week it ends. The investigation I requested is never done. Sheriff Paul Proper apparently knew who burned my barn and was protecting him. Request a copy of my book.

RE: 10/06/07 Grant Langdon

It was with great sadness I read this posting, I am very familiar with with this case, the lack of due diligence and the loss of the Langdon's family farm.

The Duke case was first tried in the media and won there by the district attorney. If those young men did not have the money behind them to get a fair trial, they and their families would feel the bite of disgrace and subsequent loss of reputation forever, their jail cell would have provided them a welcome refuge.

What dairy farmer in Columbia County could possibly afford to fight City Hall?

Scandal in the Courtroom

Trial by Jury is not guaranteed by our Constitution. Today a Summary Judgment motion is decided by a judge. That is why I lost my farm. My son was arrested for an arson he did not do. The charges were dropped, but the arrest was disastrous and no damages were paid. My son, in effect, was found guilty without trial.
In Scandal in the Courtroom, you will read how the people of Copake, New York lived, and how a serial arsonist terrorized them. You will read how the Sheriffs, the District Attorney, the lawyers all acted as a unit that I call Club Justice. My son’s case did not attract national media like the Duke Rape Case did, but like the Duke case it involved prosecutorial misconduct. It is available through Amazon and on the web. Go to my web site for more

I missed the reunion at Woodielake. Can anyone tell me about it. I have to visit next summer for sure. I haven't been on the website in a long time. 6 Years of summers from 1966 - 1971 will never be forgotten!

I live in Gotham City. I'm a RE Broker. I have an exclusive right to sell a delightful property in Copake. Quite a hike for me but worth it. Copake rocks!

Nice site, but I think you ought to add pictures in a photo album of the area. That would be great!

Known before as Karen Long, my parents owned Long's Store............it's a long way back and haven't been for quite a while, but I'll make it back to the stomping grounds one of these days, where all those childhood memories are. Copake was a great place then and I hope it still is.
